Year 12 TOK Presentations - IMPORTANT

You have all received a TOK presentations handout that contains all relevant information on your presentation and what it must include. Please ask me for a handout if you have misplaced it or not received it (very important!). You can also DOWNLOAD this handout by clicking on the link on the right side of this blog page.

I would like you to get yourselves into groups (3 max) and decide on the topic of your presentation. Once you have done this you must respond to this post (comments link below), listing your group members and topic. Deadline is Tuesday 12th May (Day 1).

I will then assign you a date for your presentation. All presentations will start after May week. The first two presentations will be on Day 1, 27th May.

Remember: This is an integral part of your assessment for TOK and if you do not complete it you risk failing the course and therefore your IB Diploma!

The deadline for doing this is: Tuesday 12th May (Day 1)

This deadline is absolute and you will not be given the opportunity to submit your proposal after this date.

Year 10 Rivers Coursework

You will have received your instructions in the form of a booklet. Your homework this cycle for next Day 5 (Friday 8th May) is the following:

  • Select your 2 hypotheses (one from list A, one from list B). You can do a third if you like (either select it from list A or list B or come up with your own).
  • Write your introduction (which should contain the aim of your project, locational background and justification of hypotheses).
  • Write your methodology.
  • Data presentation (where you present your data in the form of graphs, fieldsketches, photographs, tables etc. - all depending on which hypotheses you have chosen).

Make sure you read the entire booklet before you start writing and follow any advice given. You can also download the booklet using the "resources download" link in the right hand column of this blog page. There you will also find advice on various hypotheses and a very good pdf document on river field-work techniques (like how to use a clinometer, measure velocity with a flow meter etc.). I encourage you all to download all of these resources and put them onto a pen-drive.

The final hand-in date for your coursework is Friday, 5th June. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Good luck and have fun! :)

  • Which coastal hazards dominate this coastline? Why?
  • Outline the problems caused by the rapid erosion rates along the Holderness coastline (Tip: divide your response into "economic", "social", "environmental" etc.).
  • What is being done to manage the coastline? (Tip: management strategies)
  • What effects have these management strategies had on the coastline and the human settlements along it?

Due first Day 4 after the Easter break.
